In my efforts to become a better homemaker, despite being a single-working-mom, I found some useful online tools /printables that have made a big difference.

The first thing I did was Google eBooks on organizing the home and Time Management. In my research I found someone had written about scheduling their day – hour by hour. What a concept! It was like an epiphany for me. Being a Project Manager at work, I am big on scheduling my day due to conference calls with clients, wireframes to create, design reviews, website deliveries, etc. I am VERY productive at work. But every time I got home, it seemed like I had no time for anything to do at home. Cook? yeah right… Clean? hah, forget it! I just didn’t have the time… or so I thought. Last week I wrote about trying to be a better Homemaker. However, being a working single mom, I was having difficulty accomplishing everything I wanted. One of the things I tried is bartering.

Working Mom Homemaker

I seemed to have had yet another change in mood and outlook on life. It’s been about my home and son. I felt I wanted to bworking mom homemakere a better homemaker. For so long I have been running around being a single mom, driving everywhere, working, and trying to keep things in order. By the time I got home from work and made dinner, I was DONE. The whole cycle was making me feel unaccomplished and disorganized.

I started to look things up online and brainstorming ideas to fix my problem. It turns out, lots of other people felt the same way! So sure enough there are thousands of resources online. There are blogs everywhere with ideas and organizing printables to help you keep your home in order. However, most of the blogs are for stay at home moms or work at home moms. So there is a LOT of stuff that is not transferable to my lifestyle, but I have been able to customize things to fit my needs. In the next couple of posts I will try to give tips and ideas of what I have personally done to achieve my goals and become a better working mom homemaker.

Here is a general list of some of the things I’ve done and will cover:

  1. Bartering – can be amazing!
  2. Homemaker Binder or Folder
  3. Printables – todo lists and checklists
  4. eBooks
  5. Scheduling your day – hour by hour
  6. And eventually I hope to dabble into Menu planning

If you have felt the same and have a tip, suggestion, or printable you’d like to share then please post a comment or contact me!

Thursday is the new Friday

Things have been so different for me in the last couple of months. They just really seemed to fall into place. My toe/foot fracture healed up immensely, being a mom and being a single woman felt more natural, lots of new feelings and things have happened. New in relation to the last year or so. I felt like I was in college again! I can’t even really pinpoint why things changed. Suddenly life wasn’t so stressful, things didn’t upset me as much, I was happy. I tend to be a pretty introspective person, and when my every day feelings change like this, I have to ask myself; why?
Although certain circumstances have changed, I think there’s something else in me that has changed. It’s wonderful right now. I feel like everything is ok. Life is a journey and I am on it! I wake up wondering what tomorrow will bring for me. It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad. It’s a new day and I am eager to know what it holds for me.
I have met new people, I have bonded with some old ones. I have experienced cycles with both. And life is good. Life is interesting and bizarre and crazy and that’s what makes it worth while.

My vacation

Well, after 20 years of wanting to visit my home again in Puerto Rico, I was finally able to! And the best part was that I was able to go with my 7 year old son. So my family met him and he met Puerto Rico. It was a lovely experience being able to show my child the things I used to do for fun, see the places I saw, and eat the things I ate. Because as “American” as I am now, life was very different in Puerto Rico. So it was a true moment of sharing who I was with him.

El Yunque

He loved it there! He tells everyone “it’s paradise!” And it kind of is… We went to El Yunque – the Rainforest, the castles and forts in Old San Juan, the beach, the mountains; we did it all. The best part was the food. I’m so glad I planned my trip around the different foods I wanted to eat. And thank God I did a lot of walking to balance it out!

However, for me it was bittersweet. It was so wonderful being back and experiencing my childhood memories, but a lot of the family has changed. People have moved away, separated, and are just plain old. There weren’t any parties or major dinners, nothing of what I remember. It was a dark reminder, that times are bad – everywhere. People are living day to day in a struggling economy and lifestyle.

Nonetheless, it was a nice 7 day vacation with family and memories. Best of all, no work or stress. Just food and drinks!

Getting Raw

In my quest to be more “me”, I stumbled across a video named Food Matters. The video touched on organic foods, raw foods, and detoxing/cleansing. As I’m back on track on losing weight and being healthy, I jumped right in! I went to an organic market near my home that had a great selection of prepared raw foods and juices. I dropped 5 lbs right away! My initial goal really was not to shed the pounds but just to be healthy. I know it’s not normal to have headaches every day, to feel tired when you wake up from sleep, and to get sick. I found Raw Reform and The Raw Food World. There is copious amounts of information and products to purchase at very very reasonable prices. The products are high quality and less expensive than even my grocery store! I’m having a great AND challenging path to healthy. Some days I do absolutely great and then others I completely flop. 😦 Especially this past Halloween! But there are a lot of recipes I’m excited to try and am loving all the fruits and vegetables I have somewhat neglected. Oh and Almond milk is awesome! Who knew 🙂

A different pace

Posted on

I started this blog months ago, and haven’t been able to find the time to come back here and post something new. Well, I temporarily have some extra time on hand. I would like to say that I am going to commit myself to posting more often; but I can’t really make commitments like that. However, I am working on writing a book. So if I get going on the book, I’ll post updates on it. I think I have a pretty good start so far. I’m definitely optimistic about it.

Since I’ve had this extra time, there is a new pace to my life. I don’t seem to speed anywhere, or rush around. It’s incredibly refreshing. I still have things I have to do, but there’s no stress to them. I really enjoy life at this pace. Some people like the hustle and bustle. And I can’t say that I completely hate it. But there’s something really wonderful I feel inside me when I don’t have 10 million things to do by a certain time. I’ve talked a lot about moving to the middle of nowhere, and living off the land. I’m not sure if I’m really there yet, but I can honestly say I look forward to that day.

I feel at peace this way …. I feel like me … artistic and calm.
